Lemon tree leaves being eaten by small white bugs. What can I do to prevent this from continuing?

Q:  My newly planted Meyer Lemon tree’s leaves are being eaten by small white bugs. What can I do to prevent this from continuing?

A:  There is a product we would recommend for the white fly issue you are having. We would recommend a simple soap and water mixture.  It is intended as a soap for cleaning plants but has the capability to help you with the insects.  Second we would recommend Imidacloprid which is a systemic insecticide for fruit such as citrus. It is a contact systemic which goes into the plant and is there for when the insect penetrates the outer membrane of the leaf. Either product should work for you.
